Third party young drivers car insurance is the simplest, cheapest form of cover you can buy, and it's required by law for every vehicle on the road. This kind of policy means that if you are the cause of an accident, any damage caused to someone else's vehicle will be paid for and they won't be left out of pocket.
However, it should be noted that third party insurance will not cover any damage done to your own car and you will not be able to claim should your vehicle get stolen or for any fire damage.
Third party fire and theft car insurance is one step up from simple third party as it can cover any fire damage to your car. In addition to this you will be covered should your vehicle get stolen. This insurance isn't usually much more expensive than basic third party. Many people opt for this car insurance as it will give better cover for little extra cost.
Comprehensive young drivers car insurance can cost quite a lot more than simple third party cover, as it will also insure any damage to your own car in an accident that was your own fault. In addition to this you will also be covered for any damage caused by somebody else if that person's insurance can't be claimed from for any reason.
Some comprehensive policies cover a number of other elements as well, including your car stereo, or offering free windscreen replacement and roadside assistance. These are usually optional extras and will tend to bump up the overall cost. It’s only worth having these on your policy if they're likely to be of any use to you.
