Young Driver Costs Revealed

September 24, 2012

Research company, e-digital has revealed that parents of learner drivers are forking out a whopping £5K on average to get their children driving.

The report showed that a third of parents a directly contributing towards the cost of learner driver's lessons. The majority are paying out £750 - £1,500.

When you take into consideration other motoring costs on top of driving lessons the cost could be staggering. The research suggested that a first-time car would cost at least £1,200 and the cost of young drivers' insurance is thought to be just shy of £2,000.

In spite of this the study goes on to suggest that parents are not only concerned about motoring costs but also young driver safety. In fact almost 60% of parents, whose child has passed, whilst pleased, are also very worried about them driving by themselves.

Around one quarter of parents were said to be worried about the influence of friends or loud music - which could distract their child whilst driving. Almost 15% have said that they would not let their child drive alone or had made them undertake an advanced driving test - such as Pass Plus or an IAM qualification.
