Learner Drivers to Take Tests at Halfords
August 3, 2012
![]()
MPs revealed plans last month to host driving tests from Halfords and Fire Stations in an effort to provide a local service for learner driver insurance holders.
The actual driving tests will continue to be conducted by Driving Standards Agency (DSA) examiners but will not necessarily restricted to official driving test centres.
Commenting on the initiative, the minister for transport - Mike Penning said:
"Subject to working agreements being finalised and suitable premises with driving test routes being identified, driving tests should be delivered... from premises of these organisations in the near future."
Mr Penning added:
"Local agreements with the Fire and Rescue Service, particularly in areas not otherwise covered, are also being explored and there have also been discussions with several universities."
The initiative is to be piloted in parts of Worcestershire, Watford, Manchester, Kettering and Glasgow.
